AHRI conferences

The 2024 AHRI conference 'Human Rights in a Polarised World - Realising Human Rights in the Green and Just Transition' was held in Lund, Sweden, 12-14 September 2024. The conference was organised by the Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law and Lund University and brought together around 200 participants to network and discuss a wide range of exciting research. A big thank you to Alejandro Fuentes and his colleagues for the excellent organisation of the conference.  

The 2025 AHRI conference on 'Protecting Human Rights from the Global Spread of Organised Crime' will be held in hybrid format (in person and online) from 11 to 13 September 2025, and will take place in Lima, Peru, 11-13 September 2025. The conference is organised by the Institute for Human Rights and Democracy at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru. The conference will coincide with the 25th anniversary of AHRI's establishment and will in addition to the conference theme include panels on other topics.

The 2026 conference will be organised by the Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights. 

 

 

Call for papers

2025 AHRI conference

AHRI invites submissions for its annual conference on the theme Protecting Human Rights from the Global Spread of Organised Crime.” The conference will be held in hybrid format (in person and online) from 11 to 13 September 2025, hosted by the Instituto de Democracia y Derechos Humanos (IDEHPUCP) at the Pontifical Universidad Católica del Perú.

This conference will explore the intersection of human rights and organised crime, focusing on strategies to counteract the detrimental impact of transnational criminal networks on vulnerable populations, governance, and justice. Submissions on other human rights topics are also encouraged. Selected papers may be considered for publication. The deadline for submission is 15 March 2025. Protection of human rights in armed conflict workshop 

The Centre for Fundamental Rights at the Hertie School invites submissions for its upcoming workshop on the theme ‘Protection of Human Rights in the Context of Armed Conflict.’  This one day workshop will be in person at the Hertie School on 13 June 2025. This workshop will explore nuanced and complex application of international human rights law (IHRL) during armed conflicts. The workshop welcomes submission from established and early-career scholars, practitioners, and advanced PhD students. Contributions from interdisciplinary researchers and comparative case studies are strongly encouraged. The deadline for this submission is 3 February 2025. Older persons in crises conference

The Erik Castrén Institute of International Law and Human Rights, Finland, is co-organizing the Older Persons in Crises: Rights and Challenges Conference 20-22 March 2025. 

The “Older Persons and Crises” Conference will focus on the needs of older individuals in global crises. The conference, organized by the University of Helsinki, will feature keynote speakers and working groups on wars, climate change, the International Convention on the Rights of Older Persons, and older persons as refugees. Abstracts for presentations are due by 1 February 2025.

2025 Summer School International Human Rights Law
The Human Rights Research and Education Centre (HRREC) and the Canadian Red Cross are offering the 2025 Summer School on International Humanitarian Law (IHL). The aim of this course is to provide students and professional with the fundamentals of international humanitarian law and the opportunity to apply knowledge through realistic case studies and a full day of simulation exercises. The course is offered in both French and English and will run from March 25 to 30, 2025. Registration begins March 1, 2025. Hybrid seminar and book launch on social, economic, and cultural rights

On 29 January 2025, the Maastricht Centre for Human Rights, Faculty of Law, Maastricht University will host a hybrid seminar and book launch on 'Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights.' The programme will include a keynote address by the renowned Philip Alston, a leading voice in international human rights law, tributes honouring the extraordinary contributions of Fons Coomans, and more.
